Chalet les Martinets is a south-facing traditional chalet only 5 minutes drive from the idyllic mountain village of Manigod, with panoramic views across this alpine valley. Manigod village has a fantastic boulangerie which you can easily pop to each day for pain au chocolat and croissants. It also has the popular Val Sulens restaurant (named after one of the mountains that provides an imperious backdrop to the valley) serves fresh, local dishes such as Raclette and Tartiflette. Less than an hour from Geneva, the region provides a superb all-season base.
In winter there's a huge ski area to enjoy with a fabulous snow record. La Clusaz and Grand Bornand share a single Aravis Ski pass that provides 220km of skiing and 95 lifts with slopes suitable for all levels including extensive off-piste areas. You can be on the La Clusaz pistes (Croix Fry sector) in under 5 mins and enjoy free parking - alternatively the ski bus stops just outside the chalet.
There are plenty of activities to enjoy in summer too ranging from mountain-biking, alpine walking and horse-riding through to mountaineering, climbing and paragliding. There's also high-wire forest adventure centres for the whole family to enjoy. With such a vast expanse of tracks, trails, paths and sky across fragrant alpine meadows you'll never run out of fresh challenges to go for.
Whatever the season, Medieval Annecy with its pretty network of canals and picturesque lake is just 30 minutes away. Soak up the carnival atmosphere, browse the quaint shops and markets or escape the city's hubbub onto one of the many international-standard golf courses. The lake itself has some fabulous beaches and offers kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and fishing for water-lovers. And what a backdrop!
