Chalet Les Martinets is a large traditional property, ideally placed between the beautiful village of Manigod and the La Croix Fry sector of the La Clusaz pistes, where parking is free. If you’re looking for a peaceful holiday, far from the madding crowds, you’ve come to the right place. South-facing, the chalet has sunny balconies on both levels, perfect for an early morning cuppa or a night cap, and a lovely large garden where children can play in the summer and sledge in the winter. The views over the Manigod valley are wonderful, and it’s just a short drive to Manigod village to pick up fresh bread from the boulangerie.
The most stunning feature of Chalet Les Martinets is the beautiful picture window in the living area, which opens on to a large sunny balcony with the most incredible views over the Manigod valley. In the evening it’s the perfect place to sit and watch for shooting stars, while during the day you may be able to spot an eagle. The accommodation is well laid out, with the bedrooms separated by the open plan living dining area, so that everyone can enjoy their privacy when they need it, but get together for a meal in the evenings around the large dining table or perhaps in the garden. Free wifi makes it easy to keep in touch with home, and check the weather forecast as you plan another great day in the La Clusaz area.
Just a few minutes’ drive from the lifts at Croix Fry, you’ll waste no time getting on the slopes in the mornings, and the ski bus stops just a few metres from your door. There’s an ESF ski school base at Croix Fry. Beginners will love the gentle nursery slopes, while those with more experience can ski from here to explore the 220km of pistes between La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, which are covered by one ski pass. Cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails to choose from on nearby Beauregard plateau, and non-skiers are not forgotten, with a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool at La Clusaz, ice skating rink and cinema, as well as snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and sleigh rides. Back at Chalet Les Martinets, the garden makes a fantastic sledge run!
You’ll find plenty to do in the La Clusaz region during the summer months. There’s no shortage of walks, from mountain trails to hiking on the Gliéres plateau, the scene of the Resistance’s campaign against the German army in World War II. The ski lifts will take walkers or cyclists and their bikes up the mountains, so they can come down at their own pace, and adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, or white-water rafting within a few miles of Manigod. Via ferrata is another great family day out, with children as young as eight able to explore the mountains safely on iron walkways, secured to a harness. You’ll have plenty of experiences to share back at the chalet, over a barbecue and a glass of wine.
Chalet Les Martinets is just a few minutes’ drive from the friendly village of Manigod, in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Alps. Basic provisions can be picked up in the village, and there are more shops and restaurants in La Clusaz, where the tourism office organises a regular programme of events for residents and visitors all year round. The medieval lakeside town of Annecy is just 30 minutes away by car and is a great place for a day out, whatever the season, with its unique mix of restaurants, shops and museums. In the summer it’s a great place for water sports, or hire a boat and explore some of the quiet lakeside beaches. Whatever you do, you can be sure of a holiday you’ll never forget.

“ Les Martinets is located in the beautiful valley of Manigod and the views from the south facing balcony confirm this. I think it was the views that initially persuaded me to buy the chalet nearly ten years ago and I have never regretted this decision for one moment.
The chalet is rustic, homely and comfortable and I totally relax when I am in it. I never tire of staying here. It is located about 5 minutes drive from the ski lifts at Croix Fry where it is easy to park by the lifts and ski around La Clusaz. On returning to the chalet after a busy day, it is the peace that I love. No cars, ski lift noise and snow ploughs, wonderful after a busy day skiing.
I also like the fact that I am away from the busy hub of any ski station, but also just 15 minutes away from La Clusaz and Thones and therefore can choose to visit either in the evenings, each a little different in their appeal. Meanwhile, the villages of Manigod and Merdassier are even closer for a quick drink, meal, visit to the supermarket or just to buy early morning bread and croissants. I often ski to the Boulangerie at Merdassier to buy bread on my way back to the car. There are also restaurants within walking distance of the chalet, and one of my most wonderful memories is walking back from a meal with friends one evening, in a heavy snow fall, under umbrellas, along snow covered roads, not a sound anywhere it was truly amazing! I also enjoy racket walking in the winter and have had many nice days and evenings with family and friends of all ages.
On arriving home after skiing my children often take to their sledges in the garden and head south at great speed to the woods below Les Martinets – very safe as there are no roads or wire fences. Many hours of fun have been spent doing this and also building snowmen and igloos – again very happy times - either together, or by hearing the laughter outside whilst enjoying the preparation of a savoyarde meal, inside.
I feel very comfortable visiting Manigod and the surrounding areas in both winter and the summer. The people are friendly and helpful and make me feel very welcome. It is also a great family resort. The weekly open air markets are busy and I love wondering around tasting cheeses and cooked meats, chatting to the stallholders and buying provisions.
I also so enjoy watching the deer in the meadow below the chalet and the eagles soaring high above or hovering ready to descend on their prey. The unexpected discovery of a family of marmots, foxes and chamois when I am out walking is wonderful. The colour of the trees and flora at different times of the year is breathtaking and simply watching the stars at night from the balcony, an experience I only have when here at Les Martinets.
In the summer I love to walk either directly from the chalet or sometimes to drive first and then walk. I also love cycling around the south of Lake Annecy on the cycle track – very peaceful and safe for the children. I like to swim regularly in the lake and even in August, I can drive to the lake, park alongside at Menton and jump in! Alternatively the pool in La Clusaz is a great day out as all ages love the water slides, and there are terraces to relax on and enjoy the views from.
I truly enjoy mountain life and my home here, a revitalising contrast to normal life at sea level.”
